INSTRUCTIONS FOR STUDENTS &PARENTS                

Rules of the College:

(Parents and students must read and familiarize themselves with the rules of the college and extend full co-operation.)
1.       Every student must possess a college diary.
2.       Students must be in lecture hall 5 minutes before the scheduled lecture and OP clinic hours.
3.       Clinical students must report to the respective Departments in time.
4.       Dress code: It is compulsory for every student to come to college neatly with formal dress. Wearing the coat with the name badge is compulsory during OP hours and in the lab.
5.       Wearing Jeans and T-shirts, leggings, Sleeveless Blouses, chappals, Sports shoes, Fancy jewellery, Flowers or any derogatory dresses during college and hospital working hours is prohibited.
6.       Students must keep their hair tidy, neat and well combed. Girls having long hair should have their hair tied up properly and neatly.
7.       Wearing a cap and masks is mandatory for the student’s safety at the lab and clinic.
8.       All students are answerable to the college authorities for their misbehavior.
9.       Students are responsible for their books and belongings.
10.    Students are strictly forbidden from bringing Mobile phones to the classrooms, clinics &labs.
11.    Every student is instructed to utilize the library for study purposes only.
12.    Students are expected to take part in the co-curricular activities and clinical society meetings organized by the college authorities. Clinical society meetings will be held on Third Wednesday of everymonth.
13.    PG students should attend the PG symposium that will be held on fourth Thursday of every month.
14.    Cash collection by students is not permitted. If done for any purpose requires the prior sanction by the college authorities.
15.    Any communication (request/complaint) made by the parents should be addressed to The Principal, Tamil Nadu Government Dental College.
16.    Parents are expected to co-operate with the working of the college by enforcing discipline, punctuality and regularity on their wards.
17.    Reports sent to parents should be duly signed by the parent, taken note of and returned to the college promptly.
18.    Parents are requested to keep track of their wards’progress.
19.    Medical leave will be granted only on production of medical certificate from a qualified medical practitioner.
20.    Irregular attendance, absence without prior permission (non-submission of leave application), non-submission of leave letters, insubordination to teacher and any kind of cheating and misconduct or any habit and behavior objectionable to the management of the college are sufficient reasons for punishments like warnings, suspension, eviction from hostel.
21.    Railway concession will be given for students only once a year for the summer vacation to travel to their home town only.
22.    Request for bonafide letters must reach the college office well in advance.
23.    No student must stay away from attending college / leaving hostel except for unavoidable reasons. A written application in the prescribed format available in the college diary should be submitted.
24.    Smoking and consumption of alcohol and substance abuse is strictly forbidden.
25.    Haphazard parking of student’s two wheelers and four wheelers in the College campus is to be avoided.
26.    Interns are permitted to avail 12 days of leave during their entire CRI period
27.    PGs are permitted to avail 12 days of leave per year.
28.    All hostelites must abide by rules and regulations of hostel.

The college is particular about the conduct and behaviour of the student. Good behaviour is expected in all aspects.

Examination for BDS:

  1. Eligibility:

Each academic year shall consist of not less than 240 working days. The following requirements shall be fulfilled by the candidate to become eligible for the university examination.

  1. Attendance: Every candidate shall secure (75% attendance during each academic year separately in theory classes andclinicals).
  2. Internal Assessment Examinations: The continuing assessment examinationsmaybeheldfrequentlyatleast3timesinagivenacademic year and the average marks of these examinations should be considered. Ten percent of the total marks in each subject separately for theory and practical / Clinical examination separately should be set aside for internal assessment examination.

(b)UniversityExamination.

Examinations for MDS:

  1. Eligibility:

The following requirements shall be fulfilled by the candidate to become eligible for the finalexamination.

  1. Attendance: Every candidate shall secure (80% attendance during each academic year).
  2. Progress and conduct: Every candidate shall participate in seminars, journal review meetings, symposia, conferences, case presentations, clinics and didactic lectures during each year organized by the concerneddepartment.
  3. Work diary and log book: Every candidate shall maintain a work diary and log book appended to these regulations for recording his or her participation in the training programme conducted by the department. The work diary and log book shall be verified and certified by the Head of the Department of the institution. The certification of satisfactory progress is based on the work diary and logbook.

(b)University Examination.

The university examination shall consist of theory, practical and clinical examination and viva-voce and Pedagogy

(i)Theory:

Part-I: Shall consist of one paper
There shall be a theory examination in the Basic Sciences at the end of 1st year of course. The candidates shall have to secure a minimum of 50% in the Basic Sciences and shall have to pass the Part-I examination atleast 6 months prior to the final (Part-II)examination.

Part-II: Shall consist of

  1. Written Examination of 3 papers, namely: –Paper I, II&III
  2. Practical and ClinicalExamination;
  3. Viva-voce;and
  4. Pedagogy.

(ii)Clinical/PracticalExamination:

Clinical/practical examination is designed to test the clinical skill, performance and competence of the candidate in skills such as communication, clinical examination, medical / dental procedures or prescription, exercise prescription, latest techniques, evaluation and interpretation of results so as to undertake independent work as a specialist. The affiliating university shall ensure that the candidate has been given ample opportunity to perform various clinical procedures. The practical/clinical examination in all the specialities shall be conducted for six candidates in two days, provided that practical/clinical examination may be extended for one day, if it is not complete in twodays.

Viva-Voce Examination:

Viva voce examination aims at assessing the depth of knowledge, logical reasoning, confidence and communication skill of the students.

(iii)Dissertation:

Every candidate appearing for the post-graduate degree examination shall at least six months prior to the examinations, submit his/her form for examination along with four typewritten copies of the dissertation and online submission of dissertation, undertaken by the candidate, prepared under the direction and guidance of his/herguide. The dissertation so submitted shall be referred to the examiners for their examination and acceptance of it shall be a condition precedent to allow the candidate to appear for the written part of the examination: Provided that a candidate whose dissertation has been accepted by the examiner, but declared failed at the examination, shall be permitted to re-appear at the subsequent examination without a new dissertation, Provided further that if the dissertation is rejected by the examiner, the examiner shall assign reasons therefore with suggestions for its improvement to the candidate and such candidate shall resubmit this/ her dissertation to the examiner who  shall accept it before appearing in theexamination.

(c)Scheme of Examination:

Theory: Part-I: Basic Sciences Paper Part-II –Paper II, III & IV
Written examination shall consist of Basic Sciences (Part-I) of three hours duration shall be conducted at the end of First year of MDS course. Part-II Examination shall be conducted at the end of Third year of MDS course. Examination shall consist of Paper-I, Paper-II and Paper-III, each of three hours duration. 

(d)Distribution ofMarks:

Theory: (Total 400 Marks)

  1. Part I (1 paper of 100Marks)
  2. Part II (3 papers of 100 Marks)
  3. Practical and Clinical Examination: 200 Marks
  4. Viva-voce and Pedagogy: 100Marks

Criteria for Pass Certificate:

To pass the university examination, a candidate shall secure in both theory examination and in practical / clinical including viva voce independently with an aggregate of 50% of total marks allotted (50 out of 100 marks in Part I examination and 150 marks out of 300 in Part II examination in theory and 150 out of 300, clinical plus vivavoce together). A candidate who is declared successful in the examination shall be granted a degree of Master of Dental Surgery in the respectivespeciality.
